Special technological features for CONRAC PUBLIC DISPLAYS
The typical requirements of public information systems, 24/7 operation and static images, are very demanding on the displays used. As a result of extensive R&D, decades of direct experience in the field and very close cooperation with key suppliers, CONRAC has implemented vital functions into their Public Display Series to guarantee trouble-free operation and to prolong lifetime.
Automatic adjustment of the brightness depending on surrounding light
conditions, maximises the image quality, prolongs display lifetime while
minimising power consumption.

Optimises the display of very small details. Particularly in dark areas, even
the smallest details - not visible on conventional displays - can be displayed
generating an extremely brilliant and high-contrast image.

The intelligent cooling system works in two cycles, an open loop and a closed
loop. Despite the Public Displays‘ safety glass panel, it cools the TFT panel from
front and back. Depending on the display size and its power consumption, one,
two or more air ventilation ducts can be integrated. Furthermore, a special
sealing method avoids dust accumulation inside the display. The cooling system
is very energy efficient and maintenance-free, reducing the cost of ownership.

A very complex technique allows incessant correction of both the backlight
brightness and contrast of the TFT cells, resulting in a natural, very high-contrast
image. Additionally, this results in a reduced power consumption.

A special circuitry with a front sensor continuously monitors the proper
functioning of the TFT Panel. Any malfunction, caused by a broken backlight
system, a faulty inverter, a defect power supply, or even a faulty TCON board
is immediately detected. This feature simplifies maintenance and proofs the net
uptime of the display unit in the field.

A special system driving the TFT cells avoids image sticking and increases display
lifetime considerably.
Continuous shifting of the entire image in different directions prevents image
sticking. At normal viewing distance, this is almost not visible. If required by the
application, the shifting area can be adjusted manually.

An intelligent scaling mechanism smoothes out extreme contrast transitions.
This process avoids the so called boundary line image sticking, which occurs at
„sharp“ transitions (e.g. black to white). If required, the degree of „softening“ can
be adjusted manually.

Active temperature control, monitors the heat level and controls the fans.
True Movie Mode uses special algorithms allowing film reproduction (DVDs) in
amazing quality. This applies not only to commercial standard definition DVD
material, but also to DVD films in HD 1080i (e.g. Blu-Ray).

cTEC features for SHIP DISPLAYS
cABS, Automatic Brightness Stabilisation, is a key feature when using several screens next to each other, ensuring a uniform image brightness on all screens. The brightness is analysed by the advanced display electronics, which even takes the backlight ageing into consideration and readjusts accordingly. Especially in IBS applications using multiple screens, this feature allows a homogenous impression which reduces the operators’ stress.
Due to the high photosensitivity of the human eye in darkness it is evident that the brightness set-up needs to be adjusted accordingly. Standard dimming does not allow continuous adjustment of the brightness. CONRAC realizes this requirement with its dynamic logarithm backlight inverter.
This component enables the adjustment of even the smallest brightness nuances for night time application and avoids the annoying dazzling effect of standard screens.

cDRP allows full remote control of the monitor using the DDC channel of the DVI-input. Brightness, ECDIS activation, change of input signal, PIP (Picture-in-Picture) and other adjustments can now be remote controlled. Of course, cDRP supports easy activation of ECDIS. It also facilitates to obtain data for preventive maintenance, e.g. status information like temperature, operating time, backlight data, brightness values, firmware information to name just a few. Additional cabling between Monitor and PC, required when using RS232, is no longer required, which also contributes to keep the costs down.
Dimming of standard TFT widescreen displays does result in uneven brightness performance. Especially during night operation this effect is distracting and unacceptable for navigation equipment. CONRAC developed a special panel enhancement feature which guarantees an even brightness level over the entire screen.
Standard dimming does not only reduce the brightness of the panel, it also reduces the contrast. As a consequence, the image shows a reduced contrast level and colour deviations in dimmed mode. To avoid this negative effect, CONRAC implemented high contrast dimming functions, allowing dimming at the full contrast level guaranteeing outstanding picture performance during night time operation.
